Shaft Mounted Power On Brakes

Shaft mounted power-on brakes mount directly on the motor or through shaft for basic braking. Power on brakes are used to stop a rotating load when the electrical power is turned on. Power on brakes are backlash-free with long life expectancies and durable construction. Shaft mounted power on brakes can be used in industrial motors and equipment, robotics, packaging and food processing equipment, aerospace, and automotive.

Type SLB and Type SOB

Inertia Dynamics’ Type SLB and SOB series are shaft mounted clutch/power-on brake packages. They are used to couple two parallel or in-line shafts. These clutch/brake packages combine the features of Inertia Dynamic’s model SL or SO with an FB into one unit for easy installation. The clutch armature hub accommodates a pulley, gear, sprocket, etc., to transmit torque to the second shaft. The brake is used to stop or hold the load. The clutch/brake package is shaft mounted and retained by a loose-fitting pin or bracket through the anti-rotation tab.

Type SLB

Inertia Dynamic’s Type SLB shaft mounted power on brake/clutch combination is designed to mount on a driven shaft with the brake located closest to the load. SLB units are designed for parallel shaft mounting and will have input from a chain or belt drive. When the clutch is engaged, this package drives the load. When the brake is engaged, the load is stopped and held, and the clutch input will rotate.

Type SOB

Inertia Dynamic’s Type SOB shaft mounted power on brake/clutch combination is used with two in-line shafts with the brake on the driven shaft. When the clutch is engaged, the clutch will couple the two shafts together. When the brake is engaged, the driven shaft and load are stopped and held while the input half of the clutch rotates freely on the driving shaft.
