An industrial HMI is an operator interface panel built to run continuously in a factory, cabinet, or field environment. It differs from a commercial touchscreen in build quality: sealed fronts, wide operating temperature ranges, vibration resistance, and multi-protocol connectivity to the equipment it's controlling. What Do the IP Ratings Actually Mean for These Panels?
IP66 protects against dust ingress and powerful water jets from any direction. IP67 adds temporary submersion resistance. IP69 is the highest tier, built for high-pressure, high-temperature washdown, the standard required in food and pharmaceutical cleaning cycles. A panel rated for one tier isn't automatically rated for the tier above it. Confirm the exact rating on the datasheet before specifying into a washdown or submersion-risk environment.

What's the difference between a Rugged HMI and an Outdoor HMI?
Rugged HMIs are built for extreme conditions generally, extended temperature range and high IP ratings for harsh factory or field environments. Outdoor HMIs add a sunlight-readable, optically bonded display and hazardous-area certifications (ATEX, IECEx) specifically for direct outdoor exposure.
